Feeling Lazy? The typical swim book focuses on technique, this book's emphasis is on training; how to train your body to be that of an elite swimmer so that in practice each day, you don't have to grind out the monotonous 10,000 yards to make small improvements. Instead, you will be fast because fast is all you care about. Let's be honest, sometimes you just have to look the part.

This book includes what to focus on both in and outside the pool to streamline one's efforts and achieve faster times. This is an invaluable tool for Collegiate swimmers, the average Masters swimmer, or beginner Triathlete in search of improving their times outside of the leadership of their day-to-day swim coach.

A Lazy Man Guide To Fast Swimming eBook Daniel Lebost

Imagine a good coach spills the contents of his brain directly onto 70 sheets of paper. That's pretty much what you have here.

There's a lot of material covered in a short amount of time. Some would complain that it's superficial, which is valid to a degree. For example Lebost gives a list of exercises to help improve strength. These are offered as a simple list with the benefit in parentheses, i.e. "DEADLIFT (vertical jump movement)." There's no long-winded explanation of how to perform a proper deadlift. Even if there were, I'd still end up watching a You Tube video to help gain a better understanding.

As the description states, this isn't a technique focused manual but rather one focused on training for faster swimming. Lebost points the reader in the right direction, gives a few paragraphs on the "how" and "why," and moves on to the next big idea. If you appreciate minute details on how to achieve the most distance per stroke, you won't find the answer here. There's no discussion of how your hand should enter the water, no thoughts on core rotation, and no mention of the finish and flutter kick. Instead, Lebost shares his thoughts on roughly 7-10 key elements of competitive swimming, and where to start in improving those elements. He includes topics like diet, dry land exercise, kicking, breath control, and how to structure both pool and dry land workouts.

The tone of the writing is conversational with occasional misspellings and grammatical errors. This hasn't been "improved" by a rigid, prickly editor who would wipe out the sentence fragments and errant commas. The output is certainly coherent, and frankly, I'd rather get the word straight from the coach's mouth than have a series of technical writers muddy up the important points.

A lot of the book is dedicated to dry land exercises. My primary complaint is that without even a basic explanation on how to perform exercises, the reader has to rely on information from another source -- probably the internet. There's a lot of junk advice out there when it comes to performing exercises safely and effectively. A sentence or two on the key points of each exercise would be helpful, particularly in the areas that involve high weight/low rep exercises.

A Lazy Man Guide To Fast Swimming eBook Daniel Lebost Reviews

I'm fortunate enough to work with the author and consider him my health and wellness coach, so I was so glad he included a section on nutrition which is such an important part of training. Great read for the inside scoop straight from a competitive swimmer!
The author, Dan Lebost, was our coach for the esteemed [at least we though it was esteemed] Masters' Swim Program which took place at SUNY New Paltz. He is OneCreativeGuy ... our workouts were geared toward all types of swimmers. Coach Dan has lots of information to share. He is knowledgeable ... & a very patient & excellent teacher. Open this book, turn those pages ... & get in that water to learn how to swim faster & better & with much-improved efficiency.
I was fortunate to have Dan Lebost as my Masters Swim coach for 2 years. At 56 years old with a full-time job, family and home to take care of, I know I'm not going to improve by putting in lots of hours in the pool swimming thousands of yards. This book is full of the same kind of smart, effective tips Dan shared with us on how to swim better, train more effectively, and improve overall fitness, without making it a full-time job. Thanks Dan!
Great book for all ages. Fun and easy to read. It has excellent tips. Recommended!
